I traveled in Rennes at the Stunjam to craft a prototype from sratch where I make my own inventory for the purpose of a puzzle / narrative game.
Conception
I was alone in this project for this minimalist game jam in Rennes, this permit to breath and speak with other groups more longer. My goal was to pass very less time on development and more on the art aspect, that's why I got the idea to just create an inventory management which serve as a puzzle game to unlock endings.
Many people on the jam, and me, has numberous ideas for the gameplay, and I even deleted the drag & drop aspect of items which normally exist on various games. I expected to pass more time on the art aspect, but it was not the case, even an inventory without assets and to develop from scratch take a long time. Unity can easily implement a juicy gameplay with many animations and FX and this let no free time for a developer.
Unity's Note
Singletons are very important here, for example to store list of hovered and selected squares. On this project I got many scriptable object, this was very useful to write content like descriptions or skills for items, or even dialogs. Its very hard for a developer alone to don't have an empty game at the end of a jam.
