Typing game, write the name of satelites to attract them to your ship and then the order "attack" for send them confront enemy vessels.
Prototype realized during Game'In Rouen's game jam in January 2023.
Conception
Theme of the game jam was a scheme with a point at the center and four arrows surrouding it. Some developers chose to take it literally by doing a rythm game with the same aspect as represented on the scheme. With my fellow partner I purposed to start a 2D game, and then I recommended Epistory - Typing Chronicle to be the base of our concept.
Epistory was made in an origami style with a gameplay both adventurous and typing oriented.
Because it was my first time doing this kind of game, it was very interesting to try in this game jam.
My mate developed the typing aspect and I programmed satellites movement, to follow our main vessel or to attack enemy satellites. Our idea was to reactivate satellites, and we even find a giant list of 150 names of real satellites that existed.
Unity's Note
Its important to create a list of all satelites to check them all when a name is typed or if one of our satelite destroyed another one, to check the nearest. It always take some time to code the correct angle between two points when making it from scratch.
Typing aspect was tricky and when we import some fonts to test them, I reworked a bit the one we taked to differentiate some letters. This permit me to learn how to modify a font.
